I've read all the comments so re-downloaded sims 4 from origin, started the game so that the folder appeared, then deleted the saves, tray and mod folder and replaced them with the ones from my old computer. Also moving the save files from the My Documents folder isn't necessary even if you do uninstall the game as they remain where they are until you manually delete them.
